About T Shirt Printing Tutorial

Many think of t shirt printing as a really difficult process. This is further from the reality. Actually, school kids can do this in their classrooms one hour and come out with their custom t shirts after the class is over. You simply need to come up with a shirt design and obtain all the required materials to start the project.
The supplies needed for such project include an embroidery hoop or a type of rectangular frame. Be sure to check if the design size will fit into the chosen frame. You can get such things from the craft stores and they can be really inexpensive. Next, is to look for a cloth material like a chiffon cloth or maybe a silk screen. Tulle isn't an option, the holes are large and can cause smearing of the paint. Be sure that you find a cloth material thin enough to allow the paint to pour through very easily.
As for the type of paint, you could choose latex but they are really washable. Look for cloth paint which are permanent. You can find many different colors and textures available. Then you would need a rubber scraper to get that paint through the screen and onto the t shirt. This tool can spread a thin layer of paint so it could easily dry up and stick to the cloth. If there is no rubber scraper, the paint may be uneven and drying wouldn't result to a good design transfer.
Now, for you design, find a blank paper and draw or print out the design that you want. As for those who are just beginning, you may need to choose only two-toned designs. You may start to select complicated designs once you are already experienced enough in t shirt printing. Place a stencil pad over the design, then cut it based on the frame size. If you need two colors, you'll need two frames also one for each of the color.
Carefully cut out the design on your stencil leaving the 2nd colors alone. For the other color design, cut only the part which has the second color and leave alone the other color design. Then place newspapers inside your t shirt. Place these on a flat surface and tape the shirt so it does not move around when t shirt printing. Gently position the newspapers inside to make sure that it won't contribute wrinkles to the shirt surface. Now, place the stencil over the region you want the design to be printed on and carefully place the framed screen on top of it. With only a small amount of paint, run the paint with the scraper in a single motion. Repeat one more time. Carefully lift the screen and stencil. Then air-dry the shirt. That's about it!

  1. I admire what you have done here. I like the part where you say you are doing this to give back but I would assume by all the explaination that is good..
